Have you ever been told to get over yourself?
Well, guests at our September Business workshop on Tuesday 13 September were told this – as the topic of the workshop was “Getting over yourself and Infront of your Audience’.
Our speaker for the session was the lovely Jessica Roberts from The Who Photography. Jessica is one of the best Brand Photographers in Melbourne and believes that our insecurities Infront of the camera are actually our greatest superpowers – we just don’t know it!
In this session, Jessica worked through how photos of YOU being YOU in your business are powerful and how they can help to grow your business. She challenged the ideas of the attendees as to the purpose of photos in your business.
The main feelings of concern for the group prior to the session were:
* I feel awkward and uncomfortable.
* I don’t like photos of myself.
* I prefer to be behind the camera or scenes – not infront.
* I’m not that interesting……
BUT we all know in this day and age, with so much noise on social media and in general – it is so important to let our audience/ community see us – get to know us, form connections with us and build trust. Jessica informed the group that it now takes 22 touch points for people to action buying or engaging with us – 22 😳.
If we look at our own behaviour, we too LOVE seeing the people we follow inside their business or behind the scenes. They are probably the posts or reels we engage with ourselves – so we need to start letting people SEE US!
As daunting as it is….. YOU CAN DO IT.
Jessica broke it down with some great sheets to get us thinking about HOW we want people to SEE us and WHAT MESSAGE we want those pictures to say.
If you plan it all out first, you might find the photo taking part a lot easier!
The below is a great place to start…
- What sparks YOU.
- Perspective – look through eyes of people who love you and see the good in the picture THEY would see.
- Find a photo where you like yourself in it and think about what it is you like about that photo.
- Your difference – Try to stop thinking about what you should be in your business and try and start thinking about what makes you DIFFERENT.
- HAVE FUN! Whether having a shoot with a photographer or doing it yourself – find the fun. Put music on, get the energy flowing.
It was a great session and we thank Jessica for being a fabulous speaker and sharing with our members, Babyeggs Cafe Moorabbin for hosting our session and the members who joined us. There is nothing better than in person events where we can connect with one another and have some fun!
